Natural gas
Natural gas, coming from the well is always saturated with water and hydrocarbons. In many occasions it is over-saturated, meaning that there is free liquid water and or free liquid hydrocarbons flowing along with the gas from the well.

Primary treatment
These free liquids must be removed first. This is Primary Gas Treatment and is accomplished by means of Mechanical Separation. Removing free liquids is a relatively simple operation, because of the large density difference. It can be done in a single separator.

Secondary treatment
During the Secondary Gas Treatment water vapour and heavier hydrocarbons are being removed from the natural gas stream. Treatment of gas is normally required to depress water and hydrocarbon dew points. It often requires means to absorb or adsorb the molecules that need to be removed. Gas treatment may be performed in various ways, depending on the impurities to be removed like water vapour, heavy hydrocarbons, CO2 and H2S.
