November 2018 - Escher completed the delivery of five flares for the Liwa Plastics Industries Complex (LPIC) project in Sohar, the Sultanate of Oman. Currently the last erection activities are being performed on site.
The flares are being supported by two derrick structures. Three of the flares are supported by one common derrick structure with a height of 170 meters while the other two flares are supported by one common derrick structure with a height of 100 meters. Each derrick is equipped with a (multiple) retractable gas riser system. This system offers a unique operational advantage allowing one flare tip or riser to be removed for maintenance or inspection while the other flares remain in operation.
The erection on site of the two derrick structures is being completed and rigging of the flare risers are being performed.
The flare systems will be completed in-time for plant start-up and production in 2019.
About Liwa Plastics Industries Complex (LPIC) project
LPIC is a steam cracker project which will process light ends produced in Orpic’s Suhar Refinery and its Aromatics Plant as well as optimize natural gas liquids (NGLs) extracted from currently available natural gas supplies. Its concept lies in rerouting elements of existing production in combination with additional purchased feedstocks to deliver high value polymer products for the local and international marketplaces. After LPIC, plastics production will have increased by one million tonnes, giving Orpic a total of 1.4 million tonnes of polyethylene and polypropylene production by 2019.
