WEBINAR: What are the chances of the ship snapping? Considerations when using probabilistic analysis

WEBINAR: What are the chances of the ship snapping? Considerations when using probabilistic analysis May 2020 - On Monday, 11 May, at 4:00 PM, NAFEMS will hold an exclusive webinar about probabilistic analysis. This webinar is initiated by NAFEMS’ Stochastics Working Group, of which Nevesbu’s specialist Jack Reijmers is a member. In order to promote the adoption of stochastic methods and tools in the engineering simulation area, the Stochastics Working Group is setting out stochastic challenge problems to solve. The topic of this webinar, what are the chances of the ship snapping, derives from the question: what is the probability that the occurring stress exceeds the yield stress? In order to make this question more concrete, it has been associated with ship strength.

Probabilistic analysis is absolutely not a new technique to look at ship strength. There are lots of techniques to do stochastics, and this webinar will show which techniques are used. Sixteen participants have tackled the problem challenge with their software. There appeared to be quite a difference in the results. The results will be shown during the webinar on 11 May. The webinar is about the background of these differences and which technique is preferable. Nevesbu's specialist Jack Reijmers designed the challenge problems and will present them at this webinar.

The webinar is exclusively for NAFEM members and can be attended by registering via NAFEMS’s website.
