First ship moors at deep-sea quay

First ship moors at deep-sea quay December 2016 - A quay full of spectators at the offshore terminal, while construction work is still in progress. MariTeam project leader Léon Tuunter about the project: ‘This is the first offshore quay for the Port of Rotterdam Authority, and we are incredibly proud to have been selected for this job. Today we are delivering the first part of this project: a 150-metre-long section of a deep-sea quay that will ultimately be 500 metres in length. A ship is already underway to load the first batch of monopiles, and is expected to moor early next week.’ MariTeam is a joint venture consisting of Iv-Infra, SBE and MUC, and has been commissioned by the Port of Rotterdam Authority to produce a complete design for a heavy-load offshore deep-sea quay.

‘A rollercoaster of a project’

In the past month, several other project milestones were also reached: the quay’s final section of concrete was poured and the dredging work began. In addition to producing the design, MariTeam is also responsible for contract management and supervising the performance of work. Léon continues: ‘It’s a massive job. In May 2015 we held the first discussions by telephone, and in July 2016 we had already completed the inland shipping quay. So you can imagine what a rollercoaster of a project this is, and that makes the work very dynamic and exciting. The entire team has delivered excellent work, right on schedule. This first offshore quay will provide a boost for offshore activities in the Port of Rotterdam.’
